As Long As It Can Make Anies Baswedan Win, PKS Legowo Even Though His Cadres Will Not Become Vice Presidential Candidates

JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) handed over the determination of the vice presidential candidate (cawapres) to Anies Baswedan.

"PKS has the attitude that all parties have the right to propose the process of determining the vice presidential candidate, but in the end the election is left to the presidential candidate, of course through an objective mechanism," said Deputy Chairman of the PKS Shura Council, Sohibul Iman in Jakarta, Monday, January 30, as reported by Antara.

He emphasized that as long as the elected vice presidential candidate boosted victory, whoever he was and did not have to be a PKS cadre.

"PKS will still be in this coalition," he said.

Sohibul explained that the reason for supporting Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate was the result of the PKS Shura Council deliberation in August 2022.

There are three criteria for presidential candidates promoted by PKS, namely a symbol of change, a religious nationalist, and having electability that allows them to win.

"We don't have the highest survey electability term because today's dynamics are certainly different from the dynamics on February 14, 2024," he said.

Regarding electability, he said, the simplest part is in today's three electability surveys.
