MANADO - A resident of Kairagi was reportedly buried due to an avalanche that occurred in Mapanger District, Manado City, when it was hit by a rain and landslide on Friday, January 27.

Mapanget Police Chief Iptu I Gusti Ayu Utami directly led the evacuation process and provided assistance to residents of landslide victims that occurred in Neighborhood IV Kairagi 1 Village, Mapanget District, Manado City, North Sulawesi.

The Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol Jules Abraham Abast, said the landslide was caused by high rainfall in the city of Manado and its surroundings, which had fallen since Thursday, January 26 evening.

"After receiving information on the occurrence of a landslide, the Head of the Mapanget Police and his members immediately went to the location, then appealed to residents to stay away from the vicinity of the incident to anticipate further landslides," said Abast.

After that, the Mapanget Police Chief and members evacuated residents affected by the landslide using the local police station car. Information was obtained while saying that there were 8 houses affected by the landslide in Neighborhood IV, Kairagi Village 1.

While the residents who were temporarily evacuated to the Kairagi 1 Village office amounted to 43 people. Consisting of 22 children, 11 adults, six parents, and 4 elderly people.
