TARAKAN - Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini said the Ministry of Social Affairs was investigating allegations of exploitation of children for selling which reportedly occurred in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan Province.

"Now we are investigating, we happened to meet two children last night. Now we are investigating what the problem is," Risma said in Tarakan to ANTARA, Thursday, January 26.

"Because, if we handle it, 'oh, don't buy it', it can't be rich like that. That's the root of the problem, it's not tight," he said regarding the handling of children who were allegedly moved to sell on the streets.

He stated that the handling of social problems must be done by taking into account the root causes of the problem.

Therefore, he said, the Ministry of Social Affairs sent a team that included psychologists to examine the root causes of the mobilization of children to sell on the streets in Tarakan City.

"Now it's running, what will the results be, for example (needs) special treatment, I mean it must be handled specifically," he said.

"So, sometimes he is poor, finally his son is forced to become a beggar. So that's poverty that must be resolved," he added.

The Tarakan City Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning Service (DP3APPKB) previously stated allegations that there were syndicates that exploited children to sell.

The results of the search for the Tarakan City DP3APPKB show that there is a coordinator who is tasked with managing children selling on the streets and parents who tell their children to sell on the streets.
