JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is targeting the construction of the Batu City Main Market, East Java, which currently reaches 84.31 percent, completed in May 2023. PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said market development or rehabilitation was carried out by increasing market function as a means of people's trade so that it became a safe, comfortable, clean, orderly, and more aesthetic or non-smooth building. "It is hoped that quality market infrastructure can be directly felt, especially ensuring the distribution of basic commodities and helping to move the real sector or MSMEs that are evenly distributed to remote villages throughout Indonesia," Basuki said in a statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, January 22. The construction of the Batu City Main Market is carried out by the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of East Java, the Directorate General of Human Settlements, the Ministry of PUPR through APBN funding in 2021-2023 worth IDR 168 billion. The scope of the work includes the thorough construction of the main market buildings and supporting facilities such as trash bins, pump houses, and landscapes. Head of East Java BPPW Muhammad Reva said the construction of the Batu City Main Market refers to the Regulation of the Minister of PUPR Number 2 of 2015 concerning green buildings. This “Pasar will prioritize electricity, water, and environmentally friendly so that buildings are believed to be safe, comfortable, healthy, female friendly, child and disabled,” Reva said. The Batu City Main Market is built as high as three floors on an area of 44,525 square meters with a building area of 14,900.62 square meters, second floor covering an area of 14,143,63 square meters and 3rd floor covering an area of 6,032.86 square meters. For the distribution of the first floor as a wet zone, the second floor as a dry zone, and the third floor as a food and culinary zone. The number of Main Market stalls in Batu is 1,733 units and a total of 1,033 units.
