Jember Police arrested two students, namely a woman with the initials SL and a man with the initials HA who was suspected of being a drug dealer of methamphetamine in a campus area in Jember Regency, East Java. "The arrest originated from information stating that around the campus on Jalan Kalimantan, Sumbersari District there was a narcotics transaction of methamphetamine," said Sumbersari Police Chief Kompol Sugeng in Jember, Antara, Wednesday, January 18. According to him, officers obtained SL while in his boarding room who happened to be considering methamphetamine-type narcotics into several plastic clips to sell to narcotics users among students. "Then we interrogated the student who circulated the methamphetamine, and said that the methamphetamine was obtained from HA to be sold into several small clips," he said. To investigators, he continued, the student of a private university in Jember admitted that she was promised a salary of Rp. 1.5 million in one month and could consume methamphetamine for free. "After arresting SL, we waited for SA to take the methamphetamine that SL had weighed on in the boarding houses. That's when the officers arrested SA," he said. He explained that officers found a methamphetamine suction device during a search of his boarding room which was used as a place to weigh the narcotics. "Some of the methamphetamine packages will be distributed back to users at a price of Rp. 400 thousand for a small clip among students. We will continue to develop the case to pursue narcotics suppliers from SL and HA," he said. Sugeng said the two students from Tulungagung and Bondowoso had been named suspects and were charged with Article 114 subsidiary 112 of the Narcotics Law paragraph 1 of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 with a penalty of 5 years to 20 years. Jember Police are also wary of the use of e-cigarettes containing methamphetamine which is now a trend in several major cities that are mostly used by millennials.
