Abepura Police Chief AKP Suparmanto said the fire at Abepura Youtefa Market was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

From the reports received, the fire came from one of the stalls selling clothes. However, it quickly spread due to the strong winds and the condition of stalls and selling goods sold by traders who were flammable.
