JAKARTA - The Religious Court of Ponorogo Regency, East Java handled 1,982 divorce dispute hearings during the 2022 period. What is sad is that the most cases are dominated by young couples.

"At the most cases of divorce were proposed by a productive age partner, between 20-30 years. Some were aged 30 years and over to 60 years, but the percentage was small," said Public Relations of the Ponorogo District Religious Court Ruhana Faried, in Ponorogo, Saturday, January 7.

He did not specify the number of divorce cases in the group of the young couple in question. However, Ruhana said as many as 1,850 of the 1,982 divorce requests filed by married couples had been decided by the judge who tried.

"The most cases of divorce are due to economic factors. Infidelity also exists, but not as big as economic factors," he also said as quoted by Antara.

Ruhana revealed, based on data in 2021 there were 540 divorce cases and 1450 divorce cases. Meanwhile, in 2022 there were 547 divorce cases and 1,435 divorce cases.

"If we look at the divorce case data in 2022 and 2021, it is more dominant in submitting a divorce request from the women," he also said.

Although the number of divorce cases is still high, Ruhana said it was statistically decreasing compared to 2021.

During the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of divorce dispute cases was recorded at 1,990 cases, with 1,919 of them having been signed.

In addition to the issue of polygamy permits, Ruhana said that there was a decrease from three people in 2021 to two people in 2022. The majority of polygamy permit applicants are entrepreneurs.

"The reason is classic to avoid sin, even though it is in accordance with the law on the criteria for polygamy permits because they do not have offspring or defects, so they cannot fulfill their obligations," said Ruhana.
