JATENG - The Mount Slamet climbing post officer ensures that he will close the hiking trail if hit by extreme weather. The climbers are also asked to be aware of potential disasters when climbing mountains in the midst of uncertain weather.

The head of the Mount Slamet climbing Post for the Bambangan Line, Saiful Amri, said that his party also always monitors the latest weather conditions around Mount Slamet.

"If the situation is not favorable, the Mount Slamet climbing route will be temporarily closed for one day while waiting for the weather to be friendly again. Usually, our climbers are pending (postponed, ed.)," he said in Bambangan Hamlet, Kutabawa Village, Karangreja District, Purbalingga, Central Java (Central Java), Tuesday, January 3, confiscated by Antara.

Currently, the hiking trail via Bambangan, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java, is still open. The weather on the slopes of Mount SelAMEt is also still conducive.

"For climbing activities, it remains normal as usual and the condition of Mount Slamet is also normal," he said.

Saiful admitted that before the turn of 2023 or on Saturday, December 31, there were around 400 climbers climbing Mount Slamet.

However, he said, the hundreds of climbers could not continue climbing to the top because they were faced with bad weather.

"They only arrived at Post 5 of the Bambangan Line because it was blocked by bad weather, then went down again to the climbing post in Bambangan. Thank God it is safe, there are no problems," he said.

Asked about the number of climbers climbing Mount Slamet in recent times, he said that on normal days now there are only 25-30 people per day or down from usual which can reach more than 50 people per day.

He suspects that the decline in the number of climbers is influenced by weather factors that often rain.

"We understand that the rainy season, climbing activities have decreased," said Saiful.
