Proud Of Jokowi, 11 Months Last Indonesia Not Natural The Spike In COVID-19

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo is proud of Indonesia's condition for not experiencing a spike in COVID-19 cases over the past 11 months. In fact, this year, Indonesia will host the G20 Summit.

"Indonesia is one of 4 G20 countries, which in 10 months, 11 months, has not experienced a wave of pandemics in a row," said Jokowi at the State Palace, Friday, December 30.

Jokowi reviewed that Indonesia had experienced a wave of coronavirus cases, which peaked in July 2021 and had touched 56,000 cases of COVID-19 per day due to transmission of the Delta variant.

Then, a wave of pandemics in the country occurred again in February 2022 caused by transmission of the Omicron subvariant. At that time, daily cases had touched the figure of 64 thousand per day.

Now, Jokowi assesses that the condition of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is getting under control. As of December 27, 2022, daily cases in Indonesia are only 1.7 cases per 1 million population.

Then, the percentage of positive cases or weekly positivity rates is at 3.35 percent. Then, the rate of care for COVID-19 patients in hospitals or the bed occupancy rate is at 4.79 percent. The COVID-19 death rate has also been minimal, which is 2.39 percent.

In addition, based on the results of the survey series, Indonesia's population immunity as of July 2022 touched 98.5 percent. This community immunity coverage increased from December 2021 which touched 87.8 percent.

Therefore, Jokowi emphasized that the revocation of the PPKM status that he decided to start today was based on careful consideration.

"We are among the few countries in the world that have not experienced a wave of pandemics in 10-11 consecutive months. This means that the revocation of PPKM is not just withdrawing because it is based on science studies, including input from epidemiologists about what kind of community immunity was, what the development of the virus was like, everything," explained Jokowi.
