Enough Self-Isolation, Two Patients In The BF.7 Variant COVID Case In Jakarta Have Recovered

JAKARTA - Two cases of COVID-19 variant BF.7 in Jakarta on October 24 and November 1, 2022, have recovered. They are self-isolating at home.

"Both have mild symptoms and are self-isolating at home, both have been declared cured," said Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Health Office, Ngabila Salama in Jakarta, Thursday, December 29, as reported by Antara.

According to him, the new variant, which is a derivative of Omicron BA.5, infected the two men aged around 30-40 years without congestion or comorbid diseases and no trips abroad.

Currently, his party is updating the data for the next month to ensure whether or not there are any additions from the two cases by increasing the examination to see the characteristics of the virus genetically (genome sequencing), especially those who are hospitalized and died.

Examinations in Jakarta were carried out at the Ministry of Health, BPOM and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia.

The goal is to see the dominance of variants and the possible predictions of the peak period and the end of COVID-19 cases including new variants.

"Whatever the variant does not need to panic, everything will be under control. Don't get sick with mask discipline anywhere," he said.

He also again appealed to the public to carry out booster vaccinations and carry out free swab or PCR-based examinations at the puskesmas for those with COVID-19 symptoms.

Early detection needs to be done if it is symptomatic and has comorbidities for people over 40 years of age.

The DKI Health Office noted that currently only 58 percent of the elderly in Jakarta have received the third dose of vaccine and only 20 percent of the elderly have received the fourth dose.

Based on data from the Ministry of Health, the vaccination target for the elderly in DKI Jakarta reached 761,279 people.

"Extra policies are needed in the midst of public saturation to encourage people to want vaccines to maintain levels of immunity," he said.
