JAKARTA - The United States-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said four Internal Security Forces fighters and two SDF members were killed in an ISIS attack at one of their bases on Monday.

An ISIS fighter is killed and another wearing a suicide belt was arrested while fleeing, SDF spokesman Farhad Shami said.

"The others managed to escape to the neighborhoods," he explained as reported by The National News December 27.

Furthermore, SDF said imposing a curfew on Al Raqqa, where the incident occurred, was to anticipate further ISIS attacks and to find the culprits.

"Following the attack, our troops imposed a full curfew, launching a massive sweeping operation in the city to thwart dangerous and continuous terrorist attacks," he said.

The northern city of Al Raqqa in Syria was the last fort of ISIS until 2017, when the group was defeated territorially by the SDF.

Separately, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it had documented 16 ISIS attacks on SDFs since the start of the month, on Monday.

"This attack left 11 people, including nine SDF members, dead and nine civilians and fighters injured," the agency said. It is not known whether the tally includes Monday's ISIS attack.

The United States trains SDF and gives them intelligence in their fight against ISIS

Last month, SDF temporarily suspended anti-ISIS operations, while anticipating a ground attack by Turkey, following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's announcement that its forces would target Kurdish militants.
