JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday Russia would do everything it could to prevent a Third World War and Nuclear Disaster, with global tensions likely to continue "without time" until Russia receives necessary security guarantees.

"If we don't accept it (appropriate security guarantees), tensions will continue indefinitely. The world will continue toIALize on the verge of a Third World War and nuclear disasters," he said in an article for the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.

"We will do everything we can to prevent it," Medvedev said.

The former Russian president further continued, Russia "has nothing" to negotiate with the West because trust has been undermined, with events occurring in 2022 eliminating opportunities to hold trust-based dialogues.

Medvedev added that NATO's efforts to expand to the east were "preparations to go to war with Russia."

In a separate interview on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia was ready to negotiate with all parties involved in the war, but said Kyiv and its Western supporters had refused to engage in talks.

Earlier in early December, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow was still ready to resume discussing security guarantees, if the West were interested.

Russia referred its proposals on security guarantees to the United States and other NATO countries in December 2021. The document includes assurances that NATO will not expand further east, particularly referring to potential access to Ukraine, and provisions on non-acceptable offensive weapons, including nuclear.

However, US and NATO countries say Russia's demands regarding the expansion of the alliance cannot be met, as the bloc is committed to its open-door policy.

Russia has the world's largest supply of nuclear weapons, with nearly 6,000 warheads, according to experts.
