JAKARTA - The government seeks hospitals in all districts and cities to treat stroke patients. Including conducting non-surgery interventions to overcome blood supply disorders to the brain due to blockage or rupture of blood vessels.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin to the National Brain Center Hospital (RSPON) as the national referral hospital during an online discussion.

The Minister of Health asked the RSPON to ensure that 514 regencies and cities in Indonesia can handle stroke.

"In 2024, we must be able to carry out open brain surgery and RSPON must also ensure that 514 regencies and cities can intervene non-coiling or trombektomi," he said on Monday, December 26.

Budi said the government was trying to ensure that all hospitals in districts and cities met service standards in handling stroke patients.

He also asked the Central General Hospital in Denpasar to be the guardian for hospitals in the Bali region as well as West and East Nusa Tenggara in handling stroke patients.

"I am waiting, a hospital in Jembrana and Buleleng must be able to trombektomi and coiling," he said.

According to information broadcast on the Ministry of Health's official website, a stroke occurs when a blood vessel of the brain has a blockage or rupture so that some of the brain does not get a blood supply that carries the necessary oxygen. Such conditions can cause cell and tissue death.

These disorders cause symptoms such as facial paralysis or body parts, speech not smooth, speech unclear, change of consciousness, and visual impairment.

Stroke can result in death or defects that can reduce the health status and quality of life of the sufferer.

"I observe that this stroke is a disease that (has an impact) of very poor quality of life, so the death is the highest and the defect is also very high," he concluded.
