Prisoners Of The Liberian Citizen In The Case Of Persecution Can Be Free Remission On Christmas Day 2022

JAKARTA - A correctional inmate (WBP) or inmate (Napi) of foreign nationals (WNA) from the Class IIA Salemba Prison can finally breathe fresh air after getting special remission II on Christmas 2022.

The prisoner from Liberia named George Yokor Baysah alias Simon bin George (30) was sentenced to 1.6 years in the case of persecution under Article 351 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code. After serving his sentence, George was finally released.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Kemenkumham Regional Office, Ibnu Chuldun, confirmed that there were inmates or foreign nationals who received special remission II.

"Yes, there is one WBP of us from a foreigner on behalf of George, a Liberian citizen, he can get special remission II. But he has not been able to return to his country, because he must go through the immigration process first," said Ibnu Chuldun when contacted by VOI, Monday, December 26.

Despite getting free remission, George will continue to undergo the process of determining and will then be deported to his country.

"Mr. Kanim has prepared his members from the Central Jakarta Immigration office who will process their immigration. Hopefully, they can get it directly after we are released, received by the Central Jakarta Immigration office," he said.

Ibnu explained that the granting of remissions was based on the correctional law and from Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 174, which became the basis. So from the regulation, there is the amount of remission and how long the previous sentence (for prisoners).

Previously, it was reported that hundreds of inmates (WBP) or Christian convicts in prisons, detention centers and LPKA throughout DKI Jakarta received special remissions for the 2022 Christmas holiday on Sunday, December 25.

The granting of remissions was carried out directly by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Kemenkumham Regional Office, Ibnu Chuldun.

"Of the 16,952 correctional inmates (WBP), as many as 699 inmates in prisons, detention centers and LPKA throughout Jakarta received special remissions. At least 9 of them received special remission II so they could immediately return to the community," said Ibnu Chuldun at the Class IIA Narcotics Prison Jakarta, Sunday, December 25.
