13 Fishermen's Houses In West Sulawesi Were Heavily Damaged By The Wave Of Sea Water Pasang

A total of 13 houses in the Tampalang Village area, Tapalang District, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi (Sulbar), were damaged by tidal waves.

"A total of 13 houses located on the coast of Tampalang Village were heavily damaged due to tidal waves," said Adriansyah, a resident in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Sunday, December 26, as reported by Antara.

He said residents whose houses were damaged by tidal waves generally work as fishermen, on the coast of Tampalang Village.

"When the incident happened, residents ran onto the highway leaving their homes to save themselves, because a very loud and high tidal wave damaged the settlement and endangered the residents because it could be dragged away," he added.

He said the wavegathering embankment behind the residential area also seemed damaged, and was unable to protect residents' settlements, so that residents' houses were heavily damaged, and made residents have to evacuate to their families' homes.

"The sea water wave from the Makassar Strait looked scary because it was high and strong and loud, the wave came accompanied by strong winds destroying people's houses, residents are now evacuating to their families' homes because they lost their homes," he said.

"Residents hope for government assistance because at this time they have lost their homes and valuables, which are carried by tidal sea waves," he continued.

Meanwhile, Acting Governor of West Sulawesi, Akmal Malik, still asked residents to remain vigilant because the waters of West Sulawesi are being hit by extreme weather.

He also requested that residents of a number of areas in West Sulawesi be aware of floods and landslides that could occur during this extreme weather.

"The government will try to help the community in difficulties in dealing with disasters and ask that the regional disaster management agency (BPBD) of West Sulawesi move to help people affected by disasters," he said.
