JAKARTA - The motorboat (KM) Nurul Hidayah sank in the waters of the Thousand Islands, to be precise in the southwest of Payung Island, on Friday, December 23. Luckily, all the passengers and crew survived.

Head of the Jakarta SAR Office, Fazzli, said the motorcycle taxi ship sank at around 08.45 WIB due to a dead engine while sailing and overloaded.

"There has been a sinking ship KM Nurul Hidayat caused by an engine that died with excess loads with the location of the incident to the southwest of Payung Island, Thousand Islands," Fazzli said in his statement, Friday, December 23.

Fazzli explained, initially KM Nurul Hidayat left Kronjo Pier at 06.00 WIB with a cement load of 60 sacks, 6 cubic cellons/hebells, 1 beam and a half cubic, 15 sacks of rice weighing 50 kilograms each, and mineral water packaged with 50 boxes of glass.

The ship also carried three passengers, two crew members, and one captain from the Thousand Islands.

On the way around Male Island at 08.45 WIB, it turned out that the ship's engine was having trouble causing the engine to shut down and the ship was adrift.

Fortunately, 15 minutes later, the passengers saw a KM Doa Ibu 2 motorcycle taxi boat sailing in the middle of the sea. They tried to ask for help by waving.

"Then, KM Doma Ibu 2 came to him. Because his visibility was not too far away and could still be seen, then he was partnered with him to return to Kelapa Island," said Fazzli.

Bad weather suddenly occurred. Strong winds and high waves had caused a rope from KM Prayer Ibu 2 to KM Nurul Hidayat. However, the crew of KM Prayer Ibu 2 was able to re-link thegandent.

Unfortunately, KM Nurul Hidayat experienced a tilt to the left caused by water that had entered through the back of the left near the engine. This resulted in KM Nurul Hidayat tilting and sinking. So, everyone on the ship was immediately evacuated.

"The initial evacuation of KM Nurul Hidayat was carried out by the way the crew and passengers were transferred to the KM Doa Ibu 2 ship to Kelapa Island, North Thousand Islands," said Fazzli.

There were no casualties, only material losses. All 6 victims have been rescued by KM Doma Ibu who passed by and at 11.30 WIB arrived at Kelapa Island," he continued.
