Riau Islands - Large waves accompanied by strong winds hit Penuba Village, Selayar District, Lingga Regency, Riau Islands Province (Kepri). As a result, a number of houses were badly damaged.

"Large waves accompanied by strong winds in Penuba Village, Lingga Regency, caused damage to residential areas," said Head of the Riau Islands Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Muhammad Hasbi when contacted, Friday, December 23, quoted from Antara.

Hasbi said the big waves and strong winds on Thursday, December 22, affected as many as 23 families (KK).

"Three families have been evacuated because their houses were heavily damaged and 20 families are still staying in their homes," he added.

Hasbi said that his party was collecting data related to the impact of the damage from the natural disaster.

BPBD coordinates with the sub-district government and village governments to record affected residents and damage their homes.

To people living in the Riau Islands coastal area, Hasbi appealed to remain vigilant. Based on estimates from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), extreme weather will hit until early January 2022.

"People who live on the coast are expected to always be ready, if something happens, immediately coordinate with the local government," he said.
