JAKARTA - Michael Victor Sianipar stated that he resigned from the position of Chairman of the DKI Jakarta PSI Regional Leadership Council (DPW) as well as left the party bearing the rose symbol.

Firmly, Michael admitted that his political attitude felt no longer in line with the party led by Giring Ganesha as General Chair. That's what caused him to leave the party.

"Over time, the party that I imagined and aspired to, which I knew at the beginning, has changed considerably now. It is time for me to say goodbye and resign from PSI," Michael said in a written statement, Monday, December 5.

When confirmed, Michael was reluctant to explain the political steps that would be taken after he resigned from the party led by Giring Ganesha.

"Later. I will focus on resigning today first," said Michael.

Michael served as Chairman of the DKI Jakarta PSI DPW from 2017 until he resigned as of December 5. Michael is also a former staff of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) while serving as Governor of DKI Jakarta.

Some time ago, news circulated that Michael was close to former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, when his party in the DKI Jakarta DPRD continued to criticize Anies' policies during his tenure.

This can be seen from Anies' decision to grant a grant of Rp. 2.7 billion through the DKI Jakarta APBD to Michael to hold the International Youth Summit (Y20), a youth dialogue forum from G20 member countries.

At that time, Michael served as Chairman of the Youth 20 Summit (Y20 Summit). In the Y20 event, Anies also appreciated Michael's performance in carrying out the agenda of the G20 series.

On November 3, 2022, Michael also defended Anies who was "attacked" by social media activist Ade Armando. At that time, Ade stated that if Christians were united, Anies would fail in the election contestation. Michael defended Anies by stating that Ade Armando's statement was a divided narrative and smelled of SARA.

After resigning from PSI, Michael was also asked about the news of his closeness to Anies and the plan to become a supporter of the former Governor of DKI as a presidential candidate for the 2024 General Election.

However, Michael was reluctant to answer the question. "I support presidential candidates who have tickets (who have officially registered at the KPU). If now, they don't have tickets," he said.
