Dominated By Women, Indramayu Becomes The Most Contributing Region For Migrant Workers: The Number Is 25,985 People Since 2020

INDRAMAYU - Indramayu Regency, West Java, in three years sent as many as 25,985 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI), and became one of the regions with the most contributors.

"For only three years (2020-2022), there are 25,985 Indramayu residents who are currently working abroad," said Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani, quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 4.

According to him, the data shows that Indramayu Regency is the largest pocket for PMI placement in Indonesia, so it is necessary to continue to supervise.

Benny continued that of the 25,985 PMIs in Indramayu Regency, the most were 21,241 were female PMIs and the rest were male, so that women reached 75 percent compared to men.

As for the placement of PMI from Indramayu, most are in the Middle East, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, that is recorded in BP2MI data.

"Indramayu can be a role model for other regions to choose to work officially," he said.

Meanwhile, Indramayu Regent Nina Agustina said that as the largest pocket for PMI placement, her party appealed to PMI candidates to be careful in choosing distributors.

For this reason, he appealed to the public to prefer legal PMI distributors, and not to be tempted by persuasion, as well as the lure of a big salary from brokers, which can later be fatal.

"We continue to remind the public to be careful when they are going to work abroad. Do not get tempted by brokers with a large salary. So they must leave officially," he said.
