JAKARTA - The world's increasingly complex challenges, including challenges for democracy, require leadership, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Teuku Faizasyah, to be one of the things raised as a theme in the 15th Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) this year.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold in Bali on December 8, this 15th BDF will carry the theme 'Demokracy in a Changing World: Leadership and Solidarity'.
"BDF is one of Indonesia's diplomatic flagships aimed at encouraging democracy to grow from within," explained Faizasyah in a statement to reporters in Jakarta, Friday, December 2.
Faizasyah explained, this forum is very relevant to countries that want to share democratic experiences, with an infclusive approach, giving all countries space to attend.
"We do not discriminate, whether the participants are countries that already adhere to a democratic system, or those who are still in the process of studying democracy," said Faizasyah.
He further explained that the theme of leadership and solidarity this year was carried out by reflecting on global conditions, where world challenges are increasingly complex.
"We see the need for leadership. We feel the same way in the context of democracy, where current leadership in democracy is faced with many challenges, including democracy when we talk about the multilateral international system. Therefore, it is very appropriate for us to raise the leadership aspect, because in the midst of democracy facing challenges, there needs to be one leadership or leadership," he explained.
"Solidarity is also one that is relevant, because during the pandemic, for example, the issue of solidarity is one of the issues that is highly expected globally. The democratic political system is expected to be part of a system that can encourage solidarity, overcome the shared challenges faced by countries," he said.
So far, 57 countries have registered, while observers from 74 countries and international organizations have added. This number is still very likely to increase.
"We hope that this BDF can really get various perspectives from various regions, not only Asia Pacific, but also from various countries in other regions that can contribute to discussions," concluded Faizasyah.
