Komnas: Femicuda In Indonesia Dominated In Intimal Pairs

JAKARTA - The Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) noted that the number of cases of femicuda in intimate couples in Indonesia is far more numerous than in other categories of Februaryes. Femicuda is a murder committed against women because they are women. "The case of intimate couples' femicides occurs in the realm of the household which is carried out in family relations, marriages, and dating," explained Komnas Perempuan Chair Andy Yentriyani at the launch of Femicuda Knowledge: In a Senyap in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, November 28. Komnas Perempuan noted that out of 100 court decisions from 2015 to 2022, 83 percent were cases with the death of their wives. "Of the 100 cases, 83 percent ended with the wife's death at the hands of the husband," said Andy Yentriyani. Meanwhile, according to data from media monitoring from June 2021 to June 2022, Komnas Perempuan recorded 307 cases of murder of wives in various regions. "This shows that the femicuda is actually in Indonesia and is indeed very close to us," he said. His party estimates that the figure of the femicuda only shows the tip of the iceberg from its actual condition. "Because there are more killings that are not included in the news or in the court's decision," he said. Andy said that the results of media monitoring and analysis of court decisions showed that there were layers of abuse, such as being strangled, being crushed, beaten, beaten, kicked, hacked, mutilated, slammed, burned, and dumping of bodies. As for the motive for murder, the most are quarrels and jealousy. This motive is rooted in the idea of male ownership of women, where women are seen as property and under the control of men. Komnas Perempuan's findings also recorded the murder by the ex-girlfriend or ex-husband describing the post separation abuse phenomenon or post-perturbation abuse in various contexts of the motive behind it. This, said Andy, confirms the findings in Komnas Perempuan's Annual Note (Catahu) that households and intimate relationships are unsafe places for women.
