JAKARTA - Unintentionally leaving your smartphone at home is one thing, but leaving it at the airport just before you were about to board the plane is another thing.

A Southwest Airlines passenger is experiencing these unfortunate difficulties, after losing his cell phone at the gate area at Long Beach Airport in Los Angeles, United States.

By the time customers took separate flights saw it and informed the crew, the flight boarding was complete and the plane had been pushed back.

However, staff in the field quickly worked together to ensure the phone was returned safely to its owner.

In a video shared by Dallas-based airline on November 13, a pilot was seen turning his body out of the cockpit window to get the phone from airport staff.

When one of the staff members failed to jump in and hand it over to the pilot, the second ramp worker then helped him and managed to give the phone to the pilot.

According to Chris Perry, a spokesman for Southwest Airlines, the passenger who found the phone had been chatting with the owner for some time before, so he could tell the flight crew they were traveling in.

When operational agents realized the flight was full, they contacted the captain.

"You immediately suggested that officers on the ground try to give him a call, so he can return it to customers," Perry told CNN by email.

"The rest is recorded in the video!"

While the owner of the cellphone is not yet identified, it can be assumed they will be very grateful for the help.

The video was uploaded to World Kindness Day, an international holiday set up to promote goodness around the world, alongside a message using the hashtag #WorldKindnessDay. However, it is not clear when the recording was taken.
