JAKARTA - The Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) South Government, South Sumatra, is targeting all villages in its area to have electricity from PT PLN (Persero) in December 2022.

Assistant for Economics and Development of the South OKU District Secretariat Hermansyah Said in Muaradua, South Sumatra, said that currently there are still eight villages in the area that have not been electrified by PLN.

The eight villages include Guntung Jaya and Tanah Select in Sungai Are and Bumi Agung and Segigok Raya sub-districts in Warkuk Ranau Selatan District.

According to him, so far some residents in these remote areas still use a water mill or generator engine as a medium lighting tool to illuminate the house so it doesn't get dark at night.

Hermansyah said the fulfillment of electricity is one of the focuses of local governments to help people to enjoy electricity networks which are important needs in their daily lives.

"It is the government's obligation to meet the electricity needs of every community to support all socio-economic activities, especially in remote areas," he said, Saturday, November 19.

He added that there was no electricity network because several obstacles, such as village areas, were included in the Gunung Raya Wildlife Forest area and residential areas were in the hills, making it difficult to reach PLN networks.

"For areas located in protected forest areas, there are also many permits that must be taken care of at the central government level," he explained as quoted by Antara.

Nevertheless, Hermansyah emphasized that the South OKU Regency Government is committed to resolving all these inhibiting factors and of course supported by PLN through the village electricity program so that all people in its area can enjoy the electricity network to illuminate the house.

"Alhamdulillah, these eight villages are now in the process of building village electricity networks by PLN and are targeted for electricity in these areas to be turned on," he said.
