Gerindra Calls RKUHP Will Not Be Ratified So Law In This Period

JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR from the Gerindra faction, Habiburokhman, revealed that the revision of the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP) would not be ratified in this period.

"If you look at the latest developments in DPR colleagues, I don't think the RKUHP will be ratified in this period," said Habiburokhman in a written statement, Wednesday, November 16. This is because he is worried that the DPR will be bullied if he rushes to ratify the draft revision of the RKUHP.

"This is because no matter how good the draft agreed by the DPR will be bullied by the media and NGOs," he said.

On the other hand, Habiburokhman suspects that all factions in the DPR avoid this because it is approaching the 2024 General Election. Therefore, he believes that the RKUHP will not be ratified in this period.

"Now, we just enjoy the Dutch colonial-made Criminal Code which strictly regulates the death penalty as a basic punishment, which does not recognize restorative justice, which has brought many critical activists to prison," he said. In fact, Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Bambang Wuryanto or Bambang Pacul said that his party would hold a 'finement' meeting of the last RKUHP on the agenda of the meeting on November 21. He said, not all input from various elements of society could be absorbed in the brewing of the product.

"Before that, once again, we will talk to those who have interests, their names are being RDPU, I will lead them myself. I listen to them, what is the final input because this RKUHP has been uploaded and everything has been opened, please read it," Pacul told reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, November 14.

According to him, this RKUHP will soon be brought to a plenary meeting to make a level II decision. "Kan level 1 sudah selesai, masuknya hanya paripurna. Maka di rapat ini seluruh faksi sudah kita Wanti-wanti bahwa ini diharapkan dapat selesai masuk paripurna," kata Sekretaris Fraksi PDIP itu.

Pacul emphasized that at the agenda of the November 21 meeting there will be no reshuffle of the RKUHP regarding the proposals that have just emerged. He assessed that one of the proposals, such as the criminal issue of case engineering, would not be included in the RKUHP.

"No, there is no RKUHP reshuffle. So for example, it was found that this was about punishment for the perpetrators of case engineering. Can't you come in yet, because it was only found at the last. Will it be included in the article of tomorrow's agreement? My guess is not," he said.

Therefore, he added, the proposal still has no follow-up from the government through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham). Even so, the decision regarding the proposal will be made in a meeting on November 21.

"Because we have provided input to the government. The government is still working on not providing answers. Why? Yes, the government asked. But it will definitely be ratified in the two-day meeting. It will definitely come out. But if it is later dismantled, combat again, long longer. Understanding?," he concluded.
