DKI Gandeng South Korea For MRT Phase IV Development

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government cooperates with the South Korean Government in the construction of the Jakarta Phase IV Integrated Mode (MRT) on the Fatmawati-Kampung Rambutan route.

"It can be a solution to unravel congestion," said Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 15, as reported by Antara.

The reason is that mass transportation will change people's behavior in carrying out activities so that they can be more environmentally friendly.

The Indonesian government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the South Korean Government (South Korea) which was held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday, November 14.

Apart from Heru, the signing was attended by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation of South Korea, Won Hee-Ryong and the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea, Gandi Sulistiyanto.

The MoU together with South Korea is also a follow-up to the discussion at the 28th ASEAN Transportation Minister meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, on 16-17 October 2022.

During the bilateral meeting, South Korea was interested in participating in building the MRT Jakarta Phase IV with the Fatmawati-Kampung Rambutan route.

In fact, in June 2022, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi visited South Korea to open up opportunities for wider cooperation and hope that the MoU will be the first step in accelerating MRT development in Jakarta.

"The two countries will continue to increase cooperation not only in the railway sector, but also in the land, sea and air sectors," said the Minister of Transportation.

Apart from South Korea, previously the development of the Jakarta MRT project was marked by the signing of a cooperation between the Government of Indonesia and Japan and the UK.

The cooperation signed is a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Japan regarding the continuation of the construction of the MRT Jakarta East-West Line Phase I.

Furthermore, a letter of interest to cooperate (Letter of Intent/LoI) between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the UK regarding cooperation in the development of MRT Jakarta.

Japan, Britain and South Korea are Indonesia's strategic partners who have collaborated heavily in various fields, including the transportation sector.

The momentum of the Indonesian Presidency in this year's G20 Summit is used to find opportunities for cooperation in transportation infrastructure development with many countries, through non-APBN creative funding.

This is done so that transportation infrastructure development can continue to be carried out in order to improve the connectivity and competitiveness of the country.
