PT PLN (Persero) shows its seriousness in carrying out energy transitions in the electricity sector by forming a special organization, namely the Energy Transition and Sustainability Division. This division is a corporate strategic policy in managing thoroughly efforts to reduce carbon emissions in all PLN business processes.

"This unit is supervised directly by the Board of Directors and has the responsibility to develop strategies and track the implementation of energy transition initiatives," said PLN's Legal and Human Capital Management Director, Yusuf Didi Setiarto in a statement to the media, Saturday, November 12.

On the sidelines of the COP27 forum, PLN represented by the Executive Vice President of Energy Transition and Sustainibility, Kamia Handayani explained that to support strategic policies in dealing with climate change, the PLN Board of Directors also took the initiative to issue a BOD Directive.

The internal policies consist of six main fields, namely, projection and inventory of greenhouse gas emissions, mitigation and adaptation actions, utilization of climate financing and determination of carbon prices, provision of budgets for climate change mitigation and adaptation, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, to developing employee capacity.

Kamia conveyed, regarding the development of capabilities and technology, PLN is optimistic that in order to take advantage of energy transition opportunities, the company needs to develop new skills and new core competencies.

"PLN also manages energy transition risks and integrates them into corporate risk management," said Kamia.

PLN has identified the need for increased capabilities and developed a roadmap for capacity building for energy transition. This roadmap involves partnerships with various stakeholders.

"With regard to the organization, this year PLN is transforming the organization to further increase our internal capacity in transition and energy sustainability," he said.

PLN's commitment to supporting the energy transition, continued Kamia, has been mainstreamed into every business function. That way, it is hoped that PLN can focus on one big goal, namely leading the Indonesian energy transition.

Kamia added, in addition to strengthening internal capacity, PLN believes that collaboration and innovation are the keys to the future of clean and affordable energy.

"For this reason, PLN invites all energy transition actors to collaborate. This includes technology leaders, universities, investors, development banks, electricity business people from upstream to downstream, and many more," concluded Kamia.
