MENTOK - The Lingga Police Satpolairud evacuated a shipwreck loaded with basic necessities, daily necessities, and building materials at Mentok Village Beach, Lingga Regency, Riau Islands. "Yes, that's right, the ship is a wooden ship called KM Bintang Jaya Utama 88 which sank last night, Thursday. The ship was loaded with daily necessities, basic necessities, and building materials," said Head of Polairud Polres Lingga Police AKP Thomas Charles when confirmed in Batam, Antara, Friday, November 11. Thomas explained that the ship, which was manned by six people, initially sailed from Jambi to Dabo Singkep, Lingga, Thursday afternoon to deliver luggage. However, when he was almost at the port, he said, seawater entered the hold of the ship. "Seeing that there was a leak under the hold of the ship, the captain and crew tried to pump water, but it was not reduced and the captain then took the initiative to back the ship to the shore to avoid the ship sinking in the deep sea," he said. At around 22.30 WIB, he said, personnel from the Lingga Police Satpolairud received a report from the Dabo Singkep Police that there was a shipwreck and immediately went to the location to check and rescue. "When we arrived, the ship had sunk halfway and we immediately evacuated," he said. Thomas said that as a result of the incident only part of the items on board could be saved. “ There are no fatalities, the loss is estimated at Rp800 million,” he said.
