JAKARTA - Armed violence by cartels has hit the central state of Guanajuato, Mexico, again, with the death toll breaking 30 people in the past three months.

An armed group arrived at the bar at around 9 p.m. in the city of Apaseo el Alto, outside Celaya, Guanajuato and opened fire on those inside, authorities said in a statement Thursday.

As a result of the attack, five men and four women were killed by gunfire, while two other women were injured, the city said, continuing two injured in stable condition.

The attackers have not been identified, officials said, adding that state and federal authority units and the National Guard will be moved to the area.

City authorities said two posters referring to the criminal group were abandoned at the scene.

In Mexico, cartels often leave messages after murder for other groups or authorities.

It is known, Guanajuato State, the center of industry, has been undermined by war between cartels in recent years, with violence increasing in recent times.

Last month, 12 people were killed in a bar in Irapuato City, following a nearby shooting that killed 10 people in September. The latest shooting left about 31 people dead in the past three months in Guanajuato.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who took office in 2018, vowed to reduce cartel violence.

Murders declined slightly in 2022, although Lopez Obrador's term of office is on the deadliest 'path' in the country's modern history.
