The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police revealed that a syndicate of high-profile vehicle theft ahead of the World Superbike (WSBK) racing event was held at the Mandalika Circuit on 11-13 November 2022.

Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimum) of the NTB Police, Kombes Pol Teddy Ristiawan, said that the disclosure of this big syndicate began with the arrest of three people at Kayangan Harbor, East Lombok Regency.

"The activity at the port took place 6 days ago. Members at that time arrested three syndicates who were carrying three units of two-wheeled vehicles suspected of being stolen. The plan is that they want to hand them over to a collector on Sumbawa Island," said Teddy in Mataram, NTB, quoted from Antara, Wednesday 9 November.

After making the arrests, the NTB Police personnel carried out a mapping. As many as 10 people involved in the high-profile vehicle theft syndicate were finally arrested

"So, less than a week ago, we managed to arrest 13 members of this vehicle theft syndicate. Most of them live in Central Lombok. Some act as pickers in the field and exist as collectors," he said.

From this activity, the NTB Police together with members of the Central Lombok Police confiscated evidence allegedly stolen as many as 22 units of two-wheeled vehicles and one unit of a pickup type four-wheeled vehicle.

Based on the results of the examination, it was revealed that this syndicate had a fairly wide network spread to Sumbawa Island. The police have also pocketed the identities of four members of the syndicate who act as collectors on Sumbawa Island.

"So, their syndicate is fairly fast in executing stolen goods. Once they get the target, the vehicle does not stay there, immediately moving from one collector to another in Sumbawa Island," he said.

In fact, he said, in the 2022 period, this big-class syndicate was revealed to have collected at least 70 stolen vehicles.

"The 70 units are in the 2022 period. As for the evidence that we have secured, the results of the theft will only be in the November 2022 period," he said.

In addition to securing stolen evidence, the police also confiscated items that were allegedly used by this syndicate in action, including mandates and tools to break vehicle locks.

Teddy also emphasized that the disclosure of this vehicle theft syndicate was the first step of the police's efforts to create a sense of security and comfort in the community, especially ahead of the 2022 WSBK Mandalika event.

Teddy ensured that this disclosure would be the basis for his party to carry out development in the field.

"Through the disclosure of this case, it will certainly have an impact on reducing the space for movement from other theft syndicates. Because we believe that syndicates are still in contact. We have mapped all of that from the disclosure of this case," he said.

Furthermore, the Head of Public Relations of the NTB Police, Kombes Pol Artanto, said that the police are active in creating a sense of security and comfort ahead of WSBK 2022 will continue until the end of the year.

"So, efforts to create this condition are part of the implementation of KRYD (enhanced routine activities). According to the leadership's instructions, this activity will continue until the end of the year," he said.
