Floods caused by the overflow of the Cipurabaya River that submerged Pasirhuni Village, Purabaya District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java Province, finally subsided on Wednesday 9 November.

Purabaya District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK) Yanto Priatno said residents assisted by Sukabumi Regency Government officers and volunteers working together are now cleaning up the garbage and mud left over from the flood.

Based on the results of the temporary data collection, Yanto said the flooding in Purabaya caused three houses and three shophouses to be submerged.

Floods hit Purabaya on Tuesday, November 8 at around 17.25 WIB, following heavy rains that fell from morning to evening.

Heavy rains caused the Cipurabaya River to overflow in residents' houses and shops around it. The building of a cracker factory near the river was also affected by flooding.

Yanto ensured that the flood in Purabaya did not cause any casualties. Only four residents were recorded to have fled because they were severely affected.

Until now, Yanto said officers were still collecting data and helping residents clean up the remaining flood material.

He appealed to residents, especially those living around riverbanks, to increase their vigilance when heavy rains fall and evacuate immediately if the river's water discharge increases.
