JAKARTA - The West Java Provincial Government plans to increase the number of public health centers (puskesmas). Currently, the existence of puskesmas in West Java is still very lacking.

This was conveyed by the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil. According to him, using the theory of numbers, there are still few health centers in the region.

To that end, he is determined to increase the number of health centers in West Java to overcome the distance between the current puskesmas ratio and the population.

"If we use the theory of numbers, we only have a thousand puskesmas, so the ratio is too small for 50 million (residents). So there are still too few, then West Java needs thousands of new puskesmas," said Ridwan Kamil, as reported by Antara, Saturday, November 5.

According to the man who is familiarly called Kang Emil, the plan to add health centers is in line with the health transformation efforts being encouraged by the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) with six pillars.

The six pillars are the transformation of primary services, the transformation of referral services, the transformation of the health resilience system, the transformation of the health financing system, the transformation of health human resources, and the transformation of health technology.

"I heard directly from the Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin that there are six health transformations in the country. Posyandu will be used as a small-scale health center and the puskesmas itself will be increased and enlarged," said Kang Emil.

"That is our determination to increase the number of health centers as wide as possible and convince the public to let's take care of our health. Then, we are sufficient to be served by the puskesmas that we have transformed into an advanced and comprehensive service to people in all corners of the country," he continued.

To make this happen, he said that one of the obstacles lies in the limited budget. However, he continued, his party is currently intensifying Government Cooperation with Business Entities (PPP).

"Now there are a lot of PPPs, thank God, namely the land from the government but built it from the private sector. We are intensifying this," he said.

He continued, in the past year, the West Java Provincial Government has indeed focused on building four new hospitals. However, he still tries to offer the private sector to invest in health centers.

"There are four new hospitals that I have groundbreaking while I offer to these hospital operators to invest on a primary scale and they are preparing the scheme. So that in West Java, both the ratio of health centers and hospitals, we can increase it many times," said Ridwan.
