Children Victims Of Sexual Violence In Manokwari Can Provide Psychological Assistance

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) is coordinating with the UPTD PPA of Manokwari Regency to provide assistance to girls victims of sexual violence in West Manokwari, West Papua. "We are coordinating with the UPTD PPA of Manokwari Regency to assist victims. The victim himself is currently still experiencing trauma due to the violence he experienced," said Deputy for Child Special Protection at the Ministry of PPPA Nahar in a statement, Jakarta, Antara, Friday, November 4. The PPPA Ministry has condemned cases of sexual violence as well as physical violence that befell this eight-year-old girl. Meanwhile, the demonstrations carried out by the local community are expected to be the peak of public unrest over cases of sexual violence against children that are still happening. "We appreciate the Manokwari Police in taking steps to handle this case so that it can reduce turmoil in the community," said Nahar. Nahar said the West Manokwari Regency Women and Children's Friends (SAPA) team would continue to coordinate with the UPTD PPA of West Manokwari Regency regarding the development of the victim's condition. Currently, victims need support from all parties, especially from their families and the surrounding environment so that the trauma recovery process can run well. In this case, the victim is suspected of not only having sexual violence, but also the physical violence of the sharp weapon used by the perpetrator. "We salute the police's swift action to immediately arrest the perpetrator of sexual violence, a 20-year-old teenager and has now been named a suspect," he said. The Ministry of PPPA also encourages the Manokwari Police to impose fair criminal sanctions in accordance with Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection into Law.
