SOLO - The Surakarta City Government is preparing health workers at polling stations (TPS) to oversee the implementation of health protocols in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have prepared 1,231 health personnel to work at each polling station," said Head of the Surakarta City Health Office Siti Wahyuningsih in Solo, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 8.

Siti said that the assigned health personnel came from various hospitals, health facilities, clinics and puskesmas. In addition, there will be 1,500 volunteers on duty to monitor.

He said the supervisor's job was to ensure that no crowds and people exercising their voting rights adhere to health protocols.

Apart from the TPS, he said, there were several health workers who were assigned to collect ballots from patients undergoing independent isolation at the hospital.

"Technically, those who enter the patient's room will be health workers. Technically everything has been notified by the KPU (General Election Commission)," said Siti.

He said he had prepared a letter of assignment to each health worker on duty at each polling station in Solo. According to him, this step was an initiation from the Surakarta City Government.

"There was no order from the central government. We took the initiative so that the elections in Solo would continue to be carried out healthily and there would be no new clusters," he said.

Meanwhile, the head of KPU Surakarta City, Nurul Sutarti, said that he has provided personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers and workers who travel around.

"There will be special treatment for voters who are confirmed positive for COVID-19, both those undergoing independent isolation at home and in the hospital. The procedure is very strict," he said.
