JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Mohammad Syahril said research on the causes of acute kidney disorders in Indonesia is still being developed.

"Currently we are conducting research to find out what actually causes this acute kidney disorder. It is suspected that one of the causes of kidney failure is poisoning, it can be from food, drinks, and drugs," said Syahril in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday. November 1st.

He said the Ministry of Health together with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) were still developing a number of other possible causes of acute kidney disorders.

"The syrup drug content must be thoroughly investigated to find out which ones can cause poisoning in the kidneys. After the results of the research come out, BPOM has the responsibility to evaluate," he said.

On the other hand, the government has implemented several policies to prevent the addition of victims of acute kidney disorders.

He said the government had temporarily suspended the use of syrup for children as a quick measure to prevent new cases.

Syahril added that the type of drug used to treat poisoning, one of which was an antidote, was also given to patients undergoing treatment for acute kidney failure.

"For those who are already sick, we take action, one of which is hemodialysis and administration of antidote, an antidote," he said.

He said that 10 of the 11 patients with acute kidney disease who were treated at the RSCM were getting better after being given the Antidote Fomepizole. The administration of fomepizole is in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The data show that giving Fomepizole to patients with acute renal impairment which is thought to be caused by intoxication has an effectiveness of up to 90 percent.

"There were no deaths and no further worsening. The child was able to pass urine or urine. And from the results of laboratory tests, the ethylene glycol levels of the 10 children had no harmful substances detected," he said.
