Minister Of PUPR: All Infrastructure Projects Must Be Completed In Semester I 2024

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono emphasized that all infrastructure developments - National Strategic Projects (PSN) and non-PSN - must be completed in the first semester of 2024.

"We are in 2023 -2024, the last two years of this Forward Cabinet, with special messages from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo which were translated by the Coordinator of Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy, for those of us who have been at the Ministry of National Land Agency. For those who build infrastructure, the message in particular is that all PSN and non-PSN work must be completed in the first half of 2024," Basuki said at the 2022 Regional Infrastructure Development Coordination Meeting (Rakorbangwil) in Jakarta, Monday 31 October.

Basuki said that all the infrastructure development is expected to have been completed and it is also hoped that it will be beneficial for the community.

"So that is the guideline for one of the criteria for preparing our program for 2024," he said as quoted by Antara.

With this reference, new developments must be very selective. The Ministry of PUPR itself has just received Presidential Decree No. 120 of 2022 in the form of a special assignment from the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the Ministry of PUPR in the context of Accelerating the Implementation of Infrastructure Development.

"However, that is only for infrastructure that was ordered directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia during a working visit or meetings chaired by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Those things must be prioritized in the development of the 2023-2024 period," said Basuki.

The Ministry of PUPR needs to ensure that new developments are very selective and that only PUPR infrastructure is seen as providing added value to the functionality and resolution of regional problems (quick wins). It must be ensured that the infrastructure development is of good quality and that its implementation is not stalled.

Previously, Basuki emphasized that the government would not build a new dam in 2023-2024.

The government will focus on completing the construction of 61 dams and utilizing the completed dams, particularly to support the provision of drinking water.
