JAKARTA - The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the Semarang-Demak Toll Road Section 2 to operate by the end of 2022 to support the 2023 Christmas and New Year holidays.

Head of BPJT Danang Parikesit said that so far the 16.31 km Sayung-Demak Section 2 has reached 97.82 percent progress.

"We hope that by the end of this year Section 2 can be operated to support the implementation of the 2023 Christmas and New Year holidays, or can be carried out functionally if the operational decree has not been issued and enjoyed by the community together," said Danang in his statement in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara, Sunday, October 23.

This toll road is an important key in breaking down the congestion that is often experienced by motorists who pass on the Pantura national road to Demak, so the completion of the Semarang-Demak Toll Road must be completed immediately.

"In addition, this toll road provides easy access to Demak City and can certainly increase economic interaction, increase tourism, and support the smooth flow of logistics from west to east, from East Java to Central Java to DKI Jakarta," said Danang.

The Semarang-Demak Toll Road is a toll road above the sea which is integrated with the Semarang City Sea Wall. In addition, it also functions to contain tidal floods, as well as overcome floods and puddles that have been a problem for the capital city of Central Java Province.

The Semarang-Demak Toll Road has a total length of 26.7 km and is divided into two sections, namely Section 1 (Semarang-Sayung) along 10.69 km which is the government's portion and is currently in the stage of land acquisition to continue construction.

Meanwhile, Section 2 (Sayung-Demak) with a length of 16.31 km is a portion of the toll road business entity (BUJT) of PT Pembangunan Perumahan Semarang Demak which is targeted to complete construction by the end of this year and be operational.
