JAKARTA - The governments of Indonesia and the UK have signed cooperation in the environmental and climate sectors. One of them is to support the achievement of net absorption of emissions in the forestry and land use sector or FoLU Net Sink 2030.

"Through this MoU, both parties aim to build stronger friendships, to create real and effective climate actions in the field," said Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) Siti Nurbaya in a statement received quoted by Antara, Sunday, October 23.

The cooperation between the two parties is contained in the MoU which was signed by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya and the Minister of State for Asia, Energy, Climate and the UK Zac Goldsmith at an event in Jakarta, Saturday, October 22.

Siti explained that there are three special goals from the MoU, namely promoting cooperation in line with Indonesia's main role in the UK VPA FLEGT and Indonesia's ambition to achieve FoLU Net Sink by 2030.

The second goal is to promote Lestari Forest Management Certification in Indonesia. The third is to increase collaboration and share the best practices to strengthen the capacity of relevant stakeholders.

"After signing this MoU, I hope we can work with the British government to support the implementation of Indonesia's FoLU Net Sink 2030 Operational Plan, towards achieving the National Determined Contribution (NDC), especially through sustainable forest management," said Siti.

On this occasion, the Minister of State for Asia, Energy, Climate and Environment of England Zac Goldsmith praised Indonesia's international leadership on climate and environmental issues. Appreciation is also conveyed on the targets and Operation Plan of FoLU Net Sink 2030 Indonesia.

"Through this MoU and a meeting with Minister Siti Nurbaya, I hope to advance cooperation with Indonesia in the fields of climate change, biodiversity, environment, and low-carbon development," he said.
