JAYAPURA - It was reported that they lost contact for 4 days, finally a speedboat with 7 people was found in the waters of Roswar Island, Yomber Village, Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua.

In the search process, the Yapen Islands Police sent a team from the Yapen Police Polair Unit, Serui SAR, Yapen BPBD, and Biak SAR and also involved the local community.

Papua Police Head of Public Relations Commissioner Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said the speedboat was found at around 12.00 WIT, Thursday, October 20.

"They were found by Butonese fishermen from Nabire who were looking for fish, then they were taken to Roswar Island, Yomber Village, Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua Province", said Commissioner Kamal in a written statement.

The loss of contact with the speedboat began when the speedboat leaked in the middle of the Tanjung Woka strait. The victim took the initiative to dispose of one of the 40PK motor engines installed on the speedboat.

"However, another engine with a capacity of 15 PK experienced trouble as a result they were carried away to Mandena Island but not long after, the strong sea current took them off the island", explained Commissioner Kamal.

The victim floated at sea for 4 days by relying only on seawater to drinking and raw eggplant vegetables that were previously prepared by passengers to be taken to Miosnum village.

"Currently all passengers are in good and healthy condition, but they are still experiencing trauma from being tossed around on the high seas for 4 days", said Commissioner Kamal.
