"The two foreigners have apologized for insulting officers who carry out their obligations in accordance with applicable regulations," said the Public Relations Sub-Coordinator of the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) Achmad Nur Saleh when confirmed in Jakarta, Thursday, October 20, as reported by Antara.

The two foreigners from Australia and Japan are known to be married couples who want to leave for Australia.

When apologizing, MD asked that immigration not take the case to the criminal realm or report it to the police. Both also promised not to repeat the act, and were willing to pay overstay fines or violate the time limit for residence permits.

Saleh said the two foreigners who owned the passports of Australia and Japan were known to be overstaying. But refusing to pay the expense fees and instead acted rudely to immigration officers.

This incident occurred on October 17, 2022, at Terminal 3 of Soekarno Hatta International Airport departure at around 19.35 WIB. At that time, MD and MT together with their two children would fly to Australia using a QF42 plane.

Based on the results of the examination of immigration documents, it is known that they have overstayed two days each. According to the provisions, the foreigner is required to pay a fine fee.

However, MD refused to pay the overstay fee. The man was angry and threw an officer with a piece of paper or envelope.

In addition, MD also raised his middle finger which was considered a symbol of insult, and the attitude of demeaning officers when undergoing examination in the investigator room of the Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Soekarno Hatta.

The incident caused them to cancel flying to Australia. The foreigners from Japan and Australia and their children then just left the immigration office under the condition of their passports being detained by officers.

Meanwhile, Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration Office Muhammad Tito Andrianto said the actions of the two foreigners strongly offended the Immigration of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We are very offended, the Minister is also very offended. This action has been included in the criminal element," he said.
