JAKARTA - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo is trying to anticipate the prediction of increasing the number of unemployed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic by optimizing assistance to the workforce.

"Recently an economic expert gave me a warning that unemployment in Central Java would increase by around 900,000-1.2 million," he said at the BI Annual Meeting which was held virtually in Semarang, quoted from Antara, Thursday, December 3. .

Seeing these conditions, he said, Central Java must be prepared. According to him, one thing that must be done is to mentally prepare these workers so that they do not fall down if they are really hit by layoffs.

"In order not to 'down' we are ready to facilitate training, access to capital, assistance, and preparation for entering a new business world," he said.

According to him, this step was taken as an alternative to the emergence of "startups" or new business actors. Regarding this, he asked all parties to provide a good narrative for the community, nation and state in dealing with this COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, he said, the COVID-19 pandemic which has an impact on the economic crisis in 2020 is currently showing improvement. He said that after experiencing a contraction in economic growth in the second quarter of 5.32 percent, for the third quarter it improved to a contraction of 3.49 percent.

"We hope that by the end of this year it will be even better. Innovation and creation will continue, all trying to get up, including MSMEs to be more 'familiar' (understand) to adapt to new habits, business methods, how to sell, and how to digitally understand how to make transactions. , "he said.

He also appreciated the people of Central Java who have been able to maintain security conditions so far. According to him, if conducivity is maintained, investors will come.
