JAKARTA - A 53-year-old man was detained on Monday on suspicion of storing the body of a student at his home in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.

Isamu Ono has acknowledged the allegations and made an implied statement that he also killed the woman, according to Hokkaido police, who said the woman was strangled and died around Tuesday last week.

Ono allegedly hid the body of Yuina Segawa, a 22-year-old student in Otaru, Hokkaido, in her residence at around 14.00 last Saturday, according to Kyodo News Oct. 11.

Separately, the Segawa family filed a missing person's report on Friday afternoon, as they were unable to contact him after he left the house on October 3. Segawa has told them where he is going, according to police.

Ono then appeared during a police investigation. He was initially arrested outside his home on Saturday afternoon for carrying a knife more than 8 centimeters long, a violation of the firearms control law, police said.

When the police conducted a search at Ono's residence, the police found Segawa's body which was kept in the house. Ono was also detained for further legal proceedings.
