TGIPF Immediately Submits the Kanjuruhan Tragedy Investigation Report to President Jokowi

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF) for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy Mahfud MD said his team would submit the results of the investigation and its recommendations to President Joko Widodo on Friday, October 14.

"The TGIPF on Wednesday, October 12 will immediately conduct an analysis as well as draw conclusions and recommendations, so it is hoped that the report can be submitted to President Joko Widodo on Friday, October 14", Mahfud said during a press conference at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 11th.

Previously, TGIPF targeted to complete the investigation in a maximum of one month. However, he said, President Jokowi requested that the results of the recommendations be completed within two weeks.

"God willing, we will be faster, only 10 days. This means that this Friday can be submitted", said Mahfud, who is the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.

According to him, the team has been working for a week to find facts and submit recommendations to Jokowi.

"We have been working for a week, today is the last day to ask for information from the parties needed by TGIPF", he said.

On Tuesday, TGIPF has requested information from LPSK, PSSI, PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), and Indosiar.

"Tonight, we will continue to ask for information from civil society", said Mahfud.

 

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court said that currently, the team is confirming several things that are considered weaknesses or errors in the application of standard regulations that should be implemented in matches.

"If there is something that needs to be corrected related to the rules set by FIFA in the implementation on the field with us, then we will discuss the consolidation at our level with FIFA who will send his team here to reorganize football in Indonesia", explained Mahfud.

However, if the mistakes are related to domestic laws and regulations, then his party will recommend a new legal breakthrough to ensure that soccer matches and national soccer competitions run healthily and responsibly.

"So God willing, on Friday we handed it over to the President. Starting tomorrow we will conduct consignment to compile reports, discuss, and prepare final reports", Mahfud added.

The Kanjuruhan tragedy occurred due to riots after the classic match between Arema Malang and Persebaya Surabaya ended with a score of 2-3, where several supporters entered the field and were answered loudly by security officers who fired tear gas shots at the stands.
