PACITAN - Two people were declared dead due to the flood that hit Pacitan, East Java. While one other person disappeared by the overflowing river current.

The Head of the Pacitan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, Erwin Andriatmoko, said that currently one missing victim is still being searched.

"Currently, the search process is underway. The BPBD (rapid reaction team) TRC has rushed to the location (incident) to help search for victims who are still missing," Erwin confirmed.

The incident of a resident being swept away by the flood current occurred in two separate locations. The first occurred in the Purwoasri Village area, Kebonagung District, which happened to a farmer with the initials RJ, on Saturday morning, and the second occurred on the banks of the Grindulu River, Jatimalang Village, Arjosari District.

At the location mentioned last, Erwin said the victim was still in junior high school. They are suspected of being swept away during the flash flood due to overflowing river water.

"Actually, there were four junior high school-age children who were probably looking for fish and then bathing on the riverbank. However, then the flow (debt) of water increased sharply so that it made him a child washed away and the other two managed to save themselves by rising (mentas) to the mainland," said Erwin.

One of the two victims who were swept away by the current was found in the Grinduli River, precisely in the Blunding Hamlet, Semanten Village, Arjosari District.

The victim who had been found was then taken to the Arjosari Health Center for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the dead victims who have not been found are still being searched together with the Trenggalek SAR.
