JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) KH Marsudi Syuhud said digital financial transactions need to be monitored by related parties who are Muslim as users so that the provisions in it do not violate or deviate from Islamic law or sharia.

"There are many conveniences in the digital era, such as one-click payments, we still have to monitor so that the provisions do not deviate from (Islamic) laws," said Kiai Marsudi, as quoted by ANTARA from a written statement, Wednesday, October 5.

He conveyed this after opening the Third International Fiqh Conference entitled "Contemporary Transactions in Digital Finance from Islamic Jurisprudence Perspective" in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Currently, according to Kiai Marsudi, digital financial transactions cannot be avoided by Muslims in the world because of the changing conditions of the times along with technological developments in it.

"The use of digital transactions today is unavoidable. Due to the ever-evolving era, (financial) transactions can also be done with just one click," he said.

Kiai Marsudi said that the development of technology is likely to change the laws that exist in digital financial transactions because it is triggered by the development of information technology.

To prevent the emergence of deviations from the provisions of Islamic rules in the use of digital financial transactions, according to him, these transactions need to be seen as part of the Islamic economy.

"This is because Islamic economics is based on the tsabat law or permanent law from God that needs to be integrated and unified with the times," he said.

Therefore, he said, the implementation of digital financial transactions needs to be carried out based on the principles of al-Jam'u baina ats-Tsabat wa at-Tathawwur. Meanwhile, based on these rules, Muslims need to try to unite permanent laws with problems that continue to develop and change all the time.
