BATAM - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian has named Roby Kurniawan as the Regent of Bintan, Riau Islands as the definitive remaining office of 2021-2024 through the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 131.21-5483 of 2022 concerning the Ratification and Appointment of the Regent. "Roby Kurniawan has officially served as the definitive Bintan Regent starting from the date of inauguration until the end of his term of office as a result of the 2020 Simultaneous Pilkada," said Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad reading the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs as well as inaugurating the Deputy Regent of Bintan Definitive Roby Kurniawan at the Regional Building, Tanjungpinang, Antara, Monday, October 3. Governor Ansar appreciated the Minister of Home Affairs for the definitive decision of the Regent of Bintan Roby Kurniawan, considering that this is a necessity because there are differences in authority when making strategic policies in accelerating development. "I believe Regent Roby Kurniawan can carry out his duties properly according to the responsibilities that have been given," said Ansar. Ansar asked the Regent of Bintan to be definitive and ranks to improve development and service to the community. According to him, challenges and obstacles in the future will come and go, but a regional head must be able to deal with them with various strategic policies in order to answer regional problems, such as development, poverty, and unemployment. "Strategic policies are needed in development, especially in the economic sector," he said. Ansar said that Bintan Regency had been contributing to the economy and development in Riau Islands Province. He said the Riau Islands Quarter II economic growth in 2022 was 5 percent or an increase compared to 2021 minus 1.36 percent. Meanwhile, Bintan's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) occupies the second position in Riau Islands, which is 72.6 percent. Then the Riau Islands Human Development Index (IPM) occupies the top position in Sumatra of 75.79 points, where in this achievement Bintan's contribution occupies the third position in Riau Islands of 74.57 points. The Riau Islands poverty rate, he said, is gradually improving because various business and business sectors have started to run as the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic improves. Ansar claims the Riau Islands poverty rate is better than the 2021-2026 RPJMD target of 6.07 percent. "Poverty in Bintan is still 4.02 percent. This needs attention from the Bintan Regency Government to cooperate with the Riau Islands Provincial Government," said Ansar. Furthermore, the open unemployment rate (TPT) in Riau Islands showed a decline in line with positive economic growth which resulted in job availability. TPT Riau Islands in 2020 was 10.34 percent and then decreased to 9.91 percent in 2021. Meanwhile, in Bintan, TPT 2021 was 9.8 percent "I hope that the Regent of Bintan can create a Bintan of justice, competitiveness, and innovative towards a prosperous society. Robby Kurniawan previously served as Deputy Regent of Bintan accompanying the Regent of Bintan Apri Sujadi after both won in the 2020 Pilkada. He was found guilty and sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Tanjungpinang District Court in early 2022. Since then, his position has been held by Roby Kurniawan as the Acting Regent of Bintan.
