JAKARTA - A total of 873 houses in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, suffered damage to the impact of the magnitude 5.8 tectonic earthquake that occurred early Saturday.

In addition, eight bridge units, 17 educational facilities, two health facilities, 26 government office units, three private office units, 31 irrigation canals, nine soil retaining walls, three PLN poles, two LPJU units, and nine clean water facilities, were also damaged by earthquake shocks.

"There was also one victim who died and as many as 26 people were injured as a result of this earthquake," he said.

The damage caused by the earthquake, said Indra, spread over 15 sub-districts in North Tapanuli and urgently needed immediate treatment steps.

Meanwhile, the Regent of North Tapanuli, Nikson Nababan, said that his party together with the TNI and Polri established a logistics post for assistance for earthquake victims to ease the burden on victims who were in trouble due to the natural disaster of an earthquake that hit North Tapanuli.

"This post will later become the center of all assistance received and become a center for distributing aid to victims affected by the earthquake," he said.

It said that a number of aids for victims of natural disasters, both from the Ministry of Social Affairs and other parties, had been and would be accepted to ease the burden on the victims.
