Nunukan Residents Asked To Beware Of Floods Sent From Malaysia

JAKARTA - Residents in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province are asked to be aware of the potential for flooding from Malaysia. Because in the neighboring country there has been an increase in rainfall recently

"A number of sub-districts in Nunukan Regency are often hit by flooding to the floor of the houses on stilts almost every year due to floods sent from 'Negeri Jiran' Malaysia," said BMKG staff Nunukan Jamingi in Nunukan, reported by Antara, Monday, November 30.

He said the sub-districts that were frequently hit by flooding from Malaysia were Sembakung, Lumbis and Sembakung Atulai. These three sub-districts have become regular customers for floods sent from "Negeri Jiran", because the Pansiangan River which divides the sub-district flows upstream from the territory of Negeri Sabah, Malaysia.

Therefore, he said, if the rainfall increases in Malaysia, the impact is always experienced by the people in the three sub-districts, especially those who live along the river.

Since mid-November 2020, the rainfall in Nunukan Regency is quite high, so the potential for natural disasters, such as landslides and floods.

Jamingi also said that the weather conditions in Nunukan Regency are currently a bit extreme, usually starting with strong winds when it starts to rain. Even though these strong winds rarely occur, residents are asked to remain vigilant.

Head of the Nunukan District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Hasriansyah, who tried to confirm that he was still busy.
