DPRD Asks TNI Commander to Fire Soldiers Suspected of Mutilating Mimika Residents

JAKARTA - The Papuan Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) emphasizes that the legal process for members of the TNI in the case of the alleged mutilation of four civilians in Papua must be transparent.

"We encourage the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to convey to the Indonesian Army (TNI) Commander that this perpetrator is dishonorably dismissed", said Papuan Regional House of Representatives, John NR Gobai, at the Komnas HAM office in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 26.

John said transparency of the judicial process must be carried out to provide a sense of justice for the victims' families.

In addition, the DPRP also hopes that the government, especially the TNI, will no longer send non-organic troops.

For the case in Mappi Regency, it is known that 10 members did not want to provide information to Komnas HAM.

Therefore, the DPRD urges the Commander of the TNI, General TNI Andika Perkasa, to intervene so that the legal process can run transparently and that justice can be enforced.

The DPRD also expressed their disappointment with the members who put some money into the coffin. "This is an insult to us", he said.

Meanwhile, Komnas HAM encouraged six TNI personnel suspected of killing and mutilating four civilians in Mimika Regency to be fired and given heavy sentences.
