Anies Genjot's Office Planting Mangroves Rob On The Jakarta Coast

JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government is boosting mangrove planting by involving elements of society and organizations to control the threat of rob in the coastal areas of Jakarta and the Thousand Islands.

"The mangrove planting is also being carried out, not only the provincial government, but also the community and organizations," said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria at Jakarta City Hall, Friday, September 23.

The provincial government allocates 70 thousand mangrove nurserys and plantings in 2021. Until June 2022, the realization of mangrove planting reached 38 thousand or 54.28 percent.

Riza explained that the tidal wave occurred in Jakarta because of a number of factors, including uncertain weather and climate change. In addition, land subsidence, especially in North Jakarta, also contributes to encouraging tidal waves.

According to him, the DKI Provincial Government has budgeted Rp4 trillion for flood control in Jakarta through the DKI Jakarta Natural Resources Service (SDA).

"Gradually we will overcome all problems like that. It takes time and a lot of money," he said, quoted from Antara.

But in principle, said Riza, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government always strives for the best for Jakarta residents.

Based on data from the DKI Jakarta Regional Development Plan (RPD) for the 2023-2026 period, it is stated that climate change is driving sea level rise.

Meanwhile, land subsidence on the coast of DKI Jakarta has occurred since 1925-2015 of 0-4 meters.

Land subsidence and sea level rise threaten the islands in the Thousand Islands and the coastal land of Jakarta to sink.

While geographically, the RPD stated that Jakarta's position is in a sloping coastal area with 40 percent of the land area below sea level.

Mangrove planting is considered one solution to contain the potential for abrasion due to reducing the rate of sea waves.
