Singapore Media Calls Prabowo Endorse Jokowi For The 2024 Presidential Election, PDIP: Politics Still Liquid

JAKARTA - Singaporean media The Straits Times wrote that President Joko Widodo was seriously considering endorsed by the General Chair of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election. Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Trimedya Pandjaitan admitted that he did not know anything about the news. According to him, today's political situation is still very fluid.

"Yes, we don't know. In my opinion, this politics is still disbursing everything," said Trimedya Panjaitan to reporters at the DPR Building, quoted Wednesday, September 21. Trimedya assessed that all political parties, even Jokowi, were still calculating what roles they played in the 2024 presidential election. "Is he taking on the role of the king maker, whether he wants soft landing, we don't know either. If he wants a king maker, he will endorse someone," said the member of Commission III of the DPR.

Regarding whether there has been communication between PDIP and Jokowi regarding the 2024 presidential election, Trimedya said the discussion about this was the business of PDIP Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri and PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto. Even so, Trimedya believes that communication about the 2024 presidential election must exist. Because he said, Jokowi placed Megawati as his political teacher in taking her position and actions.

"Surely there will be communication with mothers, and Pak Jokowi I am sure that people who can continue to position mothers as his political teachers. So whatever the attitude of Mr. Jokowi in politics, he must be, maybe not all of them, but he is also consulting, hearing mother's opinion," said Trimedya. Previously, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Gerindra Party Desmond J Mahesa, assessed that there would be no problem if Jokowi did not endorse Prabowo in the 2024 presidential election.

"It's important not to (support). We'll see. If it's supported, thank God, if it's not supported, there won't be any problems either," said Desmond at the DPR Building, Tuesday, September 20.

Desmond then revealed Jokowi's closeness to Prabowo. He alluded to Prabowo's role which was said to encourage Jokowi and Anies Baswedan as governors of DKI.

"If he is close, what was he before he became governor? Before becoming governor, right, like Anies, now it's the same as the dead goods in Prabowo's life today being President today, the nominations for president are the same. What's the difference between Anies and Jokowi? what's the difference between Jokowi and Anies, who was previously thrown away by Mr. Jokowi, turned on by Prabowo and then became a presidential candidate. It's the same," he said.
